Introduction:

Search Engine optimization is the most important knowledge you must gain if you want to become a blogger. In an initial stage start with some basic knowledge but if you want to compete with bigger guys you must master the SEO Skills.

SEO is free traffic, which comes from google based on the keyword search. Google alone gets over a billion keyword searches a day and it is likely to increase to 2 billion in near future. Because Google already became inevitable and it already integrated with the life of the people.

Without google we cannot do much work, at the same time google needs quality content. You cannot rank in google ranking if you do not follow the 200 ranking signals. But the most important ranking factors are Content, Backlinks & Rank Brain (User experience & performance).

Here we will see some basic features of Content and how you must optimize it for SERP Ranking.

  • Title Tag
  • Meta Description
  • Headings
  • Keywords
  • Flesch Reading Score
  • WordCount & Plagiarism Free Content.

Title Tag:

The maximum number of Characters for Title tag should be between 50 to 60 letters. If the characters go beyond that google will truncate them. Title tag plays an important role in two factors, first it shows the search engine what the page content is all about. At the same time the title tag is responsible for Click through Rate.

Users click the results based on the title tags, if the users feels it’s convincing they will click or they won’t. It’s similar to click bait you see in youtube videos. Apart from that the title tag should have keywords, notification of content freshness and psychology as well.

While writing your blog alway keep in mind that the title tag is like a trigger.

Meta Description:

Second most important checklist you must focus on is in meta description. Because after the title user will see the meta description. The character limit is around 155 to 160. Meta description must have certain addons, your keywords and keyword phrase to point out the synopsis of your whole content.

Search engines used to watch the meta description signals. The following tag will help you to learn about it.

<meta name=”description” content=”Search the world’s information, including web pages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.“>

Google will bold the keywords when a user searches for a keyword. If your meta tag has the keywords it will be very useful for the users to see it and click it.

Headings:

The heading tags will give you the hierarchy of the blog post. Normally there are over 6 heading tags.

  • Heading 1
  • Heading 2
  • Heading 3
  • Heading 4
  • Heading 5
  • Heading 6

Heading 1 should come only one time. We should add multiple heading 1 where the search engine spiders get confused over that. You can have multiple heading 2,3,4,5,6.

Here i will show you how the hierarchy works

Heading 1

Heading 2

Heading 3

Heading 4

Heading 2

Heading 3

Heading 4

Heading 2

Heading 3

Heading 4

Whenever you write a blog post you must insert the heading tags carefully and use it when it is necessary. As per the readability score you must follow certain rules. A single paragraph should not cross a maximum of 4 to 5 lines. Give space for every paragraph.

From an SEO perspective we avoid using heading tag 5 and 6. Insert keywords in heading tags and percentage would be around 3 to 5 times.

Keywords

A Decade ago, keywords played a very important role in SEO ranking. But after the evolution of Google algorithms, the keywords integration is decreasing continuously. Google doesn’t care more for keywords. But we must insert keywords to a certain extent.

Normally the Keywords percentage will be around 0.5% to 1 %. Never go less than 0.5% and never go beyond 1%. Google might think that you are dumping keywords for ranking.

Use Alternate keywords and keyword phrases for a limited time. Don’t over use it.

Flesch Reading Score:

Flesch reading score is to measure the readability of the written content. It takes two variables into consideration while measuring them.

  • Length of your sentence (Average Words).
  • How many syllables are used in those sentences.

Here are the list of flesch reading score:

  • 00 – 30 : Very difficult to read
  • 30 – 50 : Difficult to read
  • 50 – 60 : Fairly difficult to read
  • 60 – 70 : Easily understood by 13 to 15 yrs student
  • 70 – 80 : Fairly easy to read
  • 80 – 90 : Easy to read
  • 90 – 100 : Very easy to read and easily understood by an 11 years kid.

Your reading score must be from 90 to 100 because users want to read without any difficulty. Google prefers that as well.

Wordcount & Plagiarism Free Content:

Usually Google will rank blog posts if the content has a word count of 900 to 1300. Because search engines expect a deep and reasonable content.

The chances of long content to outreach the short content is around 90%. Unless you have extraordinary blogging your content cannot win the race.

Always write in depth content after doing a lot of research. Numbers and statistics are very important as well. Try to use Bullet points to keep the user to hold on to your blog.

You must write plagiarism free content as well. Never copy or curate or spin the articles. Because Google’s algorithm has the finest plagiarism checker. Even if you take content from Web Archive, you will get caught.

While writing you can get influence from other blogs but never duplicate it. Google Artificial intelligence algorithm is better than the human brain.
